Vol. 21 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - INTERMEDIATE GRANTS.

asked the Minister for Education whether a secondary school following an approved course of instruction can secure full intermediate grants without teaching Irish, and, if not, what percentage of the recognised pupils must receive instructions in Irish as an essential subject in order to secure the grant.

A secondary school in which Irish is not taught cannot receive grants. The regulation requires that "a reasonable proportion of the pupils must receive instruction in Irish." As this is the first year in which this regulation has been introduced, no rigid percentage has yet been fixed.
