Vol. 53 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Cattle Seizure.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that at a recent seizure of cattle at Fedamore, County Limerick, for arrears of annuities, some heifers purchased under the Heifer Loan Scheme were among the number seized, and if he will state whether it is the policy that stock which is purchased by farmers by means of loans issued by one Department of State may be seized by another Department.

Dr. Ryan

Loans under the Heifer Loan Scheme are made by the Agricultural Credit Corporation, and the chattel mortgage required to be given in connection with such loans is no protection against seizure of the animals concerned for non-payment by the borrower of moneys due in respect of land annuities.
