Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - High Court on Circuit.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in respect of the High Court on circuit in each of the years 1940 and 1941 (a) the number of occasions on which the court was on circuit and the number of judges engaged; (b) the average number of days on which each court sat, and the total number of days on which each judge sat; (c) the total expenditure incurred by the State directly attributable to the High Court on circuit; (d) the average expenditure per circuit per judge engaged; (e) the total number of cases listed for hearing and the number disposed of; (f) the average number of cases listed for hearing at each circuit; (g) the average duration of each circuit.

With regard to (a), the same six judges went on circuit in March and July, 1940, while in 1941 five judges went on circuit in March and July, one in March only and one in July only.

As regards (e), the difference between the number of cases received and the number disposed of is made up in every instance of appeals adjourned at the request of the parties or of appeals which, while set down during the year referred to, were received too late for the second circuit in that year.
