Vol. 98 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Kiosk for Dublin Cattle Market.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state if he received a request from the national executive of the Irish live-stock trade to erect a telephone kiosk on the Dublin Cattle Market for the convenience of the trade and for the purpose of relieving the extreme pressure on the existing inadequate telephone facilities in the vicinity of the market; and if, in view of the importance of the cattle trade and the necessity for an expeditious service during business hours, he will have the necessary installation made immediately.

The Irish Live-stock Exporters' and Traders' Association applied in July last for the installation of a second telephone kiosk at the Dublin Cattle Market but, owing to shortage of equipment, the request could not be favourably considered.

Provided, however, that no unforeseen difficulties arise, it is hoped that it will be possible to erect an additional kiosk in the vicinity of the cattle market in about six months' time.

I may add that the Department offered to provide an exchange line with a coin-box (giving the same facilities as a kiosk) in any suitable premises in the market at an annual rental of £8. This offer so far has not been availed of by the association.
