Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mail Car Services.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the number of private mail car services in operation at the various post offices; and also, indicate the number of services where the annual contract price is (i) less than £200; (ii) not less than £400; (iii) not less than £600; (iv) not less than £800; (v) not less than £1,000; and (vi) over £1,000.

As the answer contains detailed statistics I propose, with your permission, to have it included in the Official Reports.

Following are the statistics:—

The total number of private mail car services in operation in this administration at present is 140. Of these:—

(i) 60 are at an annual contract price of less than £200.

(ii) 59 are at an annual contract price of £200 and over but under £400.

(iii) 22 are at an annual contract price of £400 and over but under £600.

(iv) 5 are at an annual contract price of £600 and over but under £800.

(v) 1 is at an annual contract price of £800 and over but under £1,000.

(vi) 2 (in Dublin City and Cork City) are at an annual contract price of over £1,000.
