Vol. 110 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cottage Repairs.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the slow progress being made in the matter of cottage repairs, he will instruct local authorities to enlarge board of health staffs so as to cope effectively with this problem.

Mr. Murphy

Housing authorities are, I understand, finding it difficult to get building work carried out, owing to shortage of materials and skilled labour. Should local authorities find it necessary to enlarge their staffs to assist in dealing with the problem I will give sympathetic consideration to any such proposals.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, I would like if he would recommend that the repair staff on cottages in County Dublin should be increased. Progress on the work is slow at the moment, and I may say that there is a lot of work to be done.

Mr. Murphy

Certain aspects of that problem were recently brought to my notice through the good offices of a deputation which I received at the Department. The County Commissioner for Dublin has been informed of my desire that every possible step should be taken to remedy the defects in question.
