Vol. 143 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dispensary Veterinary Service.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state when it is hoped to provide full dispensary veterinary service for the Irish farmer.

Mr. Walsh

If the Deputy's reference is to a dispensary scheme under which State-subsidised veterinary services would be provided generally throughout the country, such a scheme is not contemplated.

There will, however, be a steady development of my Department's veterinary activities, which will be of considerable benefit to farmers generally; and, of course, the number of veterinary practitioners in the country is continuing to increase appreciably as farmers now call in the veterinary surgeon to a much greater extent than previously.
