Vol. 143 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Children's Hospital Board.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give the names of the nominating bodies or persons empowered under the agreement of 1941 concerning the new Crumlin Children's Hospital to nominate the persons who will compose the governing board of this hospital.

The agreement in question recited that it was intended that the hospital should be a charitable corporation comprising ex-officio members, nominated members and ordinary members; that the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin for the time being should be an ex-officio member and chairman (with power to nominate a deputy to act in his absence); and that the nominated members should include two persons nominated by the Dublin Corporation. The recital in question also stated that it was intended that the ex-officio and nominated members referred to should be members of the executive committee.

The agreement provided that the first ordinary members of the proposed corporation, i.e., the members other than the ex-officio and nominated members, should be appointed by the Archbishop for the time being and that thereafter the ordinary members should be elected on the nomination of the Archbishop. It further provided that the first members of the executive committee other than the ex-officio and nominated members should likewise be appointed by the Archbishop; that two of the members of the executive committee other than the ex-officio and nominated members should retire annually; and that members to fill such vacancies should be elected by the members of the proposed corporation.
