Vol. 153 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Women Police Force.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is now in a position to state when legislation will be introduced for the establishment of a women's police force.

The introduction of legislation to permit of the appointment of women members to the Garda Síochána is not at present contemplated.

For the twenty-first time, can the Minister say when it will be contemplated? He made the statement some months ago that he was considering it and now he says it is not contemplated.

The Deputy asked a question as to when I intended to bring in legislation.

The Minister said he was considering it.

That is different from bringing in legislation. If the Deputy will look at the Order Paper, she will see that there are six Bills relating to the Department of Justice for disposal. It would take the whole summer before we finished.

Mr. Lemass

Which summer.
