Vol. 169 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin South (Central) Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of primary schools and the number of children attending such schools in the constituency of Dublin South (Central); the number of such schools that are regarded as being below acceptable standards; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

The number of national schools in the constituency of Dublin South (Central) is 50 and the average number of pupils on the rolls in those schools during the year ended 30th June, 1957, was 16,132. I am advised that five of the schools are in need of replacement by new schools. The preliminary arrangements for the erection of new schools to replace two of these schools are well advanced. In the case of the three remaining schools (which form one group) it has not been possible, so far, to obtain a suitable site for the required new schools.
