asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of male workers (excluding clerical workers) in receipt of wages of between £4. 10s. and £7 per week employed by his Department, and the total wages so paid in 1959; and if he will indicate the categories of workers so employed.
Written Answers. - Workers Employed by Department of Defence.
The number of male workers (excluding clerical workers) employed by my Department, as on lú Márta, 1960, who were in receipt of wages between £4. 10. 0d. and £7 per week was 105. Of this number all except three had £5 or more. The categories of workers so employed were as follows:—
General |
Land Steward |
Labourer |
Road Labourer |
Building |
Pioneer |
Labourer |
Caretaker |
Chimney Sweep |
Watchman |
Rangewarden |
Herd |
The total sum paid to employees of my Department in receipt of wages between £4. 10. 0d. and £7 per week in 1959 was £38,148. 0. 0d.
The Deputy will appreciate that, as the number of workers in the different grades varies from time to time and also as there have been increases in wages in recent months, the figure of £38,148. 0. 0d. does not represent the amount paid to the number of workers employed as on lú Márta.
