Vol. 189 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Derrynane (Kerry) Pier.

25.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that some time ago representations were made to his Department for necessary repairs to be carried out on Derrynane Pier, Caherdaniel, County Kerry; and if he will ensure that for the convenience of tourists and fishermen the improvements required will be put into operation without delay.

The latest representations received in the case of Derrynane Pier were in 1956 when following the receipt of a resolution from the Kerry County Council that body was asked by the Department of Agriculture to indicate the precise location of the pier in question on a map and to furnish details of the works they considered necessary. Beyond a formal acknowledgment of the enquiry no further reply was received from the Council and the matter, therefore, lapsed.

If the Kerry County Council are prepared to make an application for a grant towards the cost of repairing Derrynane Pier under the standard conditions attached to such grants from the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote, I am prepared to have the matter re-examined.
