asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the failure of the local authority to re-house Mrs. P. Corrigan, Ballacolla, Laois, who resides with her 12 children in a house which has been condemned for several years past and is now in a state of collapse and of grave danger to the family; if he is aware that numerous representations have been made to provide this family with a cottage without success; and if he will investigate this case, particularly in view of the fact that undertakings were given to provide a suitable cottage and that recently the housing authority announced that it may be possible to re-house the family this year; if he will take steps to ensure that the family will be rehoused without delay; and if his permission is sought to erect the cottage apart from an extensive scheme he will grant such sanction without delay.

I am not usually in a position to answer questions about the relative needs of individuals for re-housing or as to what individual may be accommodated in a specific local authority house. Representations were, however, made to me in this particular case and I asked the county council some time ago to investigate the matter and give it their consideration. I understand that preliminary steps to deal with the application have now been taken by the council.
When sanction is sought by the council, it will receive my early attention.
