Vol. 193 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Louth Customs Post.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is proposed to build a new customs post at Carrickarnon, County Louth; what it will cost; and whether the existing accommodation would not be sufficient for the time being.

It is proposed to erect a new customs post at Carrickarnon at an estimated cost of £11,000. The existing structure is altogether too small for present requirements and, in addition, is badly sited. There have always been complaints of inconvenience and delays to tourists and others who have to pass through the post, and the volume of traffic is constantly increasing. If serious congestion is to be avoided in the near future better facilities must be provided without delay. The proposed building will consist of one storey only. Separate residential accommodation estimated to cost £4,000 will also be provided.
