Vol. 195 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Dublin Pedestrian Crossings.

16.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government if he proposes to give approval for the grant of money from the Road Fund for the provision of zebra pedestrian crossings at Lower Rathmines Road, Rathgar Road, Harold's Cross Road and Crumlin Road, Dublin; and, if so, when.

My Department have recently notified the Dublin Corporation that, while a grant will be made from the Road Fund towards the cost of providing a zebra crossing at Lower Rathmines Road, the Corporation might consider instead the installation of pedestrian lights there. The Corporation have also been informed recently that a grant will be forth-coming from the Road Fund towards the cost of traffic lights at Rathgar Road. It is considered that, when traffic lights have been provided there, the provision of a zebra crossing will not be necessary. In the remaining two cases mentioned by the Deputy the Corporation have been informed that the volume of pedestrian traffic at the sites would not justify the making of a Road Fund grant towards the provision of zebra crossings.
