asked the Minister for Finance the number and value of (a) custom fines and (b) compromise penalties imposed by the Revenue Commissioners in respect of incidents at Dublin Airport in each of the last five years.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Customs Fines and Penalties at Dublin Airport.
Mr. Ryan
As the answer includes a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.
Following is the statement:
Customs fines are not imposed by the Revenue Commissioners. The phrase is interpreted as meaning penalties imposed by the Courts. In the last five years there was one baggage case at Dublin Airport on 18 September, 1961 in respect of which a penalty was imposed by the Court. The amount of the penalty was £100.
Compromise penalties are accepted by the Revenue Commissioners in other cases in lieu of the institution of legal proceedings. Particulars of such compromise penalties accepted since 1958 are given in the following table.
