Vol. 230 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increased Electricity Charges.

128.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the reason for allowing the ESB to continue to impose an increase of 7 per cent in electricity charges; and if he will reconsider this matter in the light of the many protests in regard to it.

The Deputy is, no doubt, aware that on 19th August last I made a public announcement indicating that the Government had decided that the interim increase of 7 per cent made by the Electricity Supply Board in electricity charges should stand. My announcement explained that the Government was influenced in its decision by developments which took place subsequent to the completion of the report of the Electricity Prices Advisory Body.

I know of no grounds for reconsidering the matter.
