Vol. 231 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dunmore East Harbour.

49.

andMr. Kyne asked the Minister for Finance the original estimated cost of improvement and enlargement of Dunmore East Harbour; and the amount spent to date on this project.

50.

andMr. Kyne asked the Minister for Finance when it is expected that the improvement and enlargement of Dunmore East Harbour will be completed.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take questions Nos. 49 and 50 together. When the Government approved of this development scheme in 1963 it was estimated that the cost would be of the order of £275,000. Since then extra works have been approved and there have been increases in the labour and material costs. The cost to date is approximately £370,000 and the total cost is now estimated at £465,000. It is expected that the works will be completed by the end of the next financial year.

I think the Parliamentary Secretary will admit that the increased cost referred to is not due to an increase in the wages of the workers?

There were a good many factors. The original scheme was enlarged and relevant costs went up in the meantime.

Did the Parliamentary Secretary say when it is expected that work will be completed?

It is expected that the work will be completed by the end of the next financial year.
