Vol. 235 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Lane.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the local authority propose to remedy the present unsatisfactory condition of Coolock Lane, Santry, County Dublin, by widening, re-surfacing and proper lighting.

I am informed by Dublin County Council that the preparation of plans for the improvement and realignment of the section of Coolock Lane between the county boundary at Kilmore and the main Dublin-Swords Road at Santry, has reached an advanced stage and that negotiations for the acquisition of the necessary lands have commenced. The start of improvement works, including the provision of public lighting, will depend on progress with the land acquisition.

Is the Minister aware that this is an extremely neglected thoroughfare and indeed dangerous at many points? It is a source of great worry to people who live in this vicinity with their children who have to make use of it. Will the Minister take all possible steps to ensure that some action is taken in this matter? I appreciate that there are inescapable delays in land acquisition but surely the local authority should be advised to get on with the job and to anticipate that land acquisition where they have compulsory powers to do so.

I am aware that this is an urgent matter and the local authority also appear to be so aware, and they are, as far as I can gather, doing their best to acquire this land and start this work.
