Vol. 246 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports Deposit Scheme.

34.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will list the payments, with dates, from the Exchequer on foot of special imports deposit.

Payments made by the Exchequer on foot of the special imports deposits scheme are in respect of interest payable to banks on the sums deposited by them with the British Customs on behalf of Irish exporters. The total amounts paid to date are as follows:—

1968-69

£63,565

1969-70

£1,435,101

Payment is normally made monthly to each of the banks concerned. Since the scheme started there have been approximately 100 such payments. It would not be in accordance with practice to give information as to the amounts paid to each individual bank but if the Deputy wishes to have particulars of the total amounts paid in each month I will arrange to have the particulars sent to him.
