Vol. 257 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary School.

70.

asked the Minister for Education when the erection of the enlarged new school at Tankerstown, Bansha, County Tipperary, is likely to begin; why the promise to begin this work early in 1971 has not been met; and if he is aware that the existing school is 70 years old, overcrowded, rat infested and virtually devoid of sanitary accommodation.

I understand that the Commissioners of Public Works invited tenders for the erection of the new central school at Tankerstown, Bansha, County Tipperary, earlier this year. Difficulties arose with regard to the acceptance of a suitable tender for this project. However, the Commissioners hope to be in a position to place a contract early in the new year. On this basis building of the school should commence before the end of March, 1972. My Department are aware of conditions in the existing school and have made arrangements for the remedying of these conditions.

Which conditions caused the tender not to be accepted?

I am sorry I have not got a note on that.
