asked the Minister for Health if he will exhort shopkeepers not to sell cigarettes either singly or in packets to school-going children or people under eighteen years of age.

I shall consider the Deputy's suggestion in connection with the current year's anti-smoking campaign. I should add that it is, of course, an offence under section 39 of the Children's Act, 1908 to sell cigarettes to a person apparently under the age of 16 years.
