Vol. 271 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Safety Association.

90.

asked the Minister for Local Government the progress that has been made in setting up a national road safety association.

I established the Road Safety Association on the 16th July, 1973. From the date of its inauguration the association have assumed functions in relation to road safety propaganda and education formerly being carried out by my Department. In addition to carrying out the programme of road safety promotion taken over from my Department, the association are at present engaged in finalising details of their programme for 1974-75 and in formulating future road safety policy. I expect to be in a position very shortly to make the order confering corporate status on the association.

Is it true that the proper staffing of this association from the Civil Service is being held up in the Department of the Public Services?

That is not true.
