Vol. 281 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Contraceptive Legislation.

36.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the fact that more than six months have elapsed since the defeat of the Control of Importation, Sale and Manufacture of Contraceptives Bill, 1974, he intends to initiate new legislation on this matter.

(Cavan): I have no proposals in mind for such legislation.

Would the Minister consider asking his colleague, the Minister for Justice, to consider introducing legislation on this matter in the Seanad as seems to be his current practice with regard to matters of controversy?

(Cavan): I understand it to be the view of the Minister that as this matter was before this House comparatively recently when Deputies had an opportunity of expressing their views on it, he has no further proposals in relation to it.

I trust that the Minister will communicate his sentiments to the Church of Ireland synod which is sitting at the moment.
