Vol. 301 No. 2

Written Answers. - Reactor Cattle Payments.

418.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will have owners of reactors paid directly by cheque thereby obviating months' delay.

Payment of the Department's headage grants in respect of reactors under the bovine tuberculosis and brucellosis eradication schemes is made by way of payable orders issued direct to the herdowners concerned from the Department's central offices in Dublin. It is not possible under existing accounting practice to make these payments in any other way. The payments are normally made within five or six weeks after receipt of the reactors in the meat factory. Payment of the salvage value of the reactors is a matter for arrangement between the herdowner concerned and the meat factory.
