asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of representations made to Fóir Teoranta to secure ex-gratia pensions for former pensioners of Martin Mahony and Bros. Ltd., Blarney, County Cork, which is in liquidation; and if he will take steps to enable the utilisation of State funds for the purpose of compensating the pensioners affected.

I am aware that representations have been made to Fóir Teoranta to secure ex-gratia pensions, or lump sums in lieu, for former pensioners of Martin Mahony and Bros. Ltd. Fóir Teoranta were, however, unable to accede to the representations as they are precluded by law from disposing of their funds for such a purpose. I regret, furthermore, that there are no funds at my disposal from which such payments could be made.
