Vol. 315 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dublin Railway Track Danger.

60.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the danger and nuisance of youths throwing stones in the vicinity of railway tracks in the north-central area of Dublin and the measures, if any, being taken to eliminate this danger to residents and CIE workers.

Since 1 January 1979, 22 incidents of the kind referred to in the question are known to the Garda. The Garda authorities have informed me that special attention is being paid to the affected areas by regular uniformed foot and mobile patrols and also by members of the district detective units. Gardaí are also employed from time to time in plain clothes in some areas in an effort to combat the nuisance. I understand that these measures have been effective and that a number of detections have been made.
