Vol. 322 No. 9

Written Answers. - Electrical Wiring in Rented Accommodation.

135.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the hardship caused to tenants by their landlords allowing the electrical wiring in their accommodation to deteriorate, resulting in the ESB cutting off supply, and tenants thereby being forced to vacate their accommodation without the landlord having to have recourse to normal legal procedures; and the action he proposes to take in the matter.

I have received no representations on this matter and I am not aware of any general incidence of landlords deliberately allowing electrical wiring to deteriorate leading to the situation where tenants are forced to vacate their accommodation. The question of the cutting off of electricity supplies is a matter for the ESB and I have no powers or functions in this regard.
