Vol. 330 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Cork Factory.

475.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he is aware of the loss of employment at a factory (details supplied) in County Cork; if his Department will have discussions with the company with a view to continuing in production there; and the reason he has not received a deputation as requested.

I am aware of the loss of employment caused by the closure of the factory in question. At my request, the IDA are maintaining close contact with the owners with a view to ensuring that production will recommence at the factory as soon as a suitable opportunity arises.

Following the announcement on 28 July 1981 by the owners of their intention to suspend production at the factory for an extended period, representations were made to the then Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism by local interests. The Minister replied in detail to these representations on 14 August 1981. Early in September the question of receiving a deputation was raised with my office. It is expected that such a meeting will take place shortly.
