Vol. 349 No. 10

Written Answers. - Newspaper VAT Revenue.

502.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of money collected through VAT by his Department from the sale of national daily newspapers and provincial newspapers.

There are no official estimates of the amounts of VAT collected in respect of the sale of national daily and provincial newspapers as such. Rough estimates, prepared on the basis of circulation data, suggest that annual VAT due in respect of the sales of national daily (morning and evening) newspapers is about £12½ million. The annual VAT due on the sale of provincial newspapers may be about £2¼ million.
