Vol. 366 No. 6

Written Answers - Dublin North-Inner City Employment.

28.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the actions or activities which he proposes to undertake within the next 12 months with regard to improving the employment prospects and quality of life generally of people in the Dublin north-inner city area.

Limerick East): The IDA is actively promoting Dublin's inner city area for suitable industrial projects particularly in the small industry sector to which the area is particularly suited. Since 1979, IDA has contributed significantly to the development of the area by the provision of enterprise centres at Pearse Street and East Wall Road and small industry units at The Liberties and Prussia Street. In addition a further 18 units ranging in size from 400 to 800 square feet are being constructed at Gloucester Place and these will be available for promotion next month. Total investment in these facilities amounts to some £20 million.

Since 1 January 1983 Dublin's inner city has been a designated area for special incentives by IDA for a five year period. This allows IDA to provide up to 60 per cent grant assistance towards suitable projects in the area and this will be used to good advantage by IDA's small industry Dublin team which has an ambitious target of approving 260 projects in inner city Dublin during 1986.
