Mr. Quinn

asked the Minister for Health if he will indicate for each regional authority for the years 1980 to 1987 inclusive the total amounts of money that they have received from the European Social Fund; and if he will, in respect of that money, itemise the projects or programmes which benefit from that financial assistance; if he will express that assistance as a percentage of the total cost of the delivery of the cost of project or programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Details of European Social Fund assistance received by the eight regional health boards in the years 1980-87, inclusive, are set down in the following statements.

Ireland's applications for ESF assistance on behalf of the health boards between 1980 and 1987 covered the provision of vocational training for handicapped persons in a range of skilled and/or semi-skilled areas including printing, carpentry, upholstery and furniture manufacture, welding/metal work/and engineering, electronic assembly, boat building, sewing, horticulture and agriculture, pottery making, fork lift driving, craft work and training as general factory operatives. In more recent years, specific computer training courses have been introduced in addition to the installation of more advanced technology in the areas of printing, electronic assembly and engineering.
