Vol. 381 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cost of Road Proposals.

31.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to an assessment made recently in a report (details supplied) which stated that the average cost per linear mile of the Dublin city inner tangent road proposals could cost as much as £32 million; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My attention has been drawn to the newspaper report in question. The suggestion in a media report that Dublin inner city road plans will cost £32 million per mile is grossly exaggerated. Actual costs of even the more expensive short sections of road have been substantially less than this rate. I do not accept the underlying assumption that the costs associated with a relatively short stretch of road in the very heart of the city would apply to other sections of the inner tangent route.
