Vol. 385 No. 2

Written Answers. - Olympic Equestrian Representatives.

108.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food, arising from his answer to Parliamentary Question No. 26 of 17 November 1988, if he will include a figure of £55,000, as per invoices submitted, for the EFI in his Supplementary Estimate, as he undertook, at a press conference, to pay the shortfall in the cost of sending the Olympic equestrian representatives to Seoul.

The extent of the Government's commitment is to contribute up to £40,000 to cover any shortfall in funds required to send the Irish team to the Olympics and I wrote to this effect to the Equestrian Federation of Ireland on 26 August last.

As I stated in my reply to the Deputy's earlier question, payment will be made as soon as the supplementary estimate has been approved by the Dáil.
