Vol. 385 No. 2

Written Answers. - Land Registry Delays.

92.

asked the Minister for Justice, in view of the fact that there is at least a 15 month delay in dealings with the Tipperary section of the Land Registry Office, the measures he proposes to take to alleviate this unsatisfactory situation, having regard to the fact that these delays are causing much inconvenience, hardship and financial loss to applicants, particularly young mortgage holders who are awaiting the completion of dealings; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that there is at present a delay of approximately 15 months in completing registration in the case of subdivision dealings in the Tipperary section of the Land Registry. In the case of dealings not involving subdivision the delay at present is of the order of eight to ten weeks.

I am hopeful that additional staffing, which is due to be assigned to the registry in the New Year by way of redeployment, will help to reduce the arrears in the registry and thereby shorten the delays being experienced at present.

I am informed also that as a matter of policy the Land Registry will expedite cases in which the applicants or their solicitors bring to its attention the fact that special circumstances of hardship, such as bridging finance, exist.
