Vol. 387 No. 7

Written Answers. - VAT Rebate.

103.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in payment of a VAT rebate due to a company (details supplied) in Waterford; and when payment of same will be made.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that clearance of this company's claims for repayment of VAT has been delayed due to failure to satisfy the inspector of taxes as to the adequacy of records maintained by the company.

VAT repayment claims in respect of the periods up to January/February 1988 have been disallowed. It is understood that these are being reviewed.

VAT repayment claims in respect of the periods May/June to November/ December, 1988 require further examination by the inspector of taxes.

The inspector of taxes arranged to visit the company's accountants on 24 February 1989 to discuss a set of audited accounts submitted to the inspector on 17 February 1989. When the inspector has completed his examination of the accounts he will arrange for certification of any repayment due which will be set off against declared VAT liabilities in the first instance and any balance due repaid to the company.
