Vol. 388 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Consultant's Salaries

20.

asked the Minister for Health the current salary of hospital consultants; and if the Irish Medical organisation is seeking a 50 per cent increase on this; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The average payment to a consultant in respect of a whole time commitment is £35,882. I will provide more detailed information to the Deputy concerning the total remuneration of consultants in the form of a tabular statement.

I am aware of a claim by the Irish Medical Organisation for a 50 per cent increase in the salary of voluntary hospital consultants. This claim will be dealt with through the normal industrial relations process.
