Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Unleaded Petrol.

232.

asked the Minister for Labour if, following the exhortations of the Minister for the Environment in respect of the use of unleaded petrol, he has corresponded with all the semi-State bodies under his aegis directing them to use unleaded petrol in all of the petrol driven vehicles which are under the control, ownership or leasing of those semi-State companies; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The incidence of vehicle ownership by State bodies which operate under the aegis of my Department is insignificant. In those bodies which have vehicles, there is a disposition to favour the use of vehicles which operate on unleaded petrol. In the circumstances I do not consider that the situation warrants a formal ministerial direction, though naturally I would strongly encourage use of unleaded petrol wherever feasible.
