Vol. 398 No. 4
25 Mr. Pattison asked the Minister for Defence the average age of Army vehicles of each type; the plans he has for fleet replacement; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
As part of the reply which indicates the age profile of the main categories of vehicles comprising the Defence Forces transport fleet is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose to circulate it in the Official Report.
A programme for the modernisation of the Defence Force transport fleet commenced in 1988. The programme is based on the disposal of obsolete and unserviceable vehicles and their replacement on a phased basis by new vehicles.
It is intended that about 130 new vehicles will be acquired during 1990 and that further vehicles will be purchased in subsequent years as financial resources permit.
