Written Answers. - Total Workforce.

Austin Deasy

Question:

119 Mr. Deasy asked the Taoiseach the total workforce in the country; and the percentage of this represented by those engaged in agricultural and allied industries.

An estimated 1,120,000 persons were at work at mid-April 1990 according to provisional estimates from the sample labour force survey carried out in April-May 1990.

It is estimated that just under 19 per cent of the total at work were engaged in agricultural and allied industries including food, drink and leather industries.
