Vol. 405 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dublin House Break-Ins.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

146 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the serious increase in the number of house break-ins in the Bayside and Sutton Park areas of Dublin 13 in recent months; the steps he proposes to take, or has taken, to improve policing in the area; if he will provide additional resources to enable more gardaí to work on the beat in these areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there have been a number of residential burglaries in the Bayside and Sutton Park areas in recent months and that appropriate measures have been taken to deal with the situation. These measures include attention from regular foot and mobile patrols and the deployment of additional resources.

Two extra gardaí were recently transferred to Howth Garda station and a further garda, with responsibility for liaison with local neighbourhood watch coordinators, will be assigned there in the near future. In the Bayside and Sutton Park areas there is a total of five neighbourhood watch schemes covering over one thousand homes and all are reported by the Garda authorities to be active in taking crime prevention measures.
