The establishment, in 1984, of An Post and Telecom Éireann, necessitated a reassessment of the situation in relation to Dundalk and Waterford.
In 1990 the Government indicated that An Post and Telecom Éireann should relocate sections from within their respective organisations to these two centres.
Given the financial circumstances of An Post it is understood that the company are not at this stage in a position to give a commitment to the decentralisation programme for the foreseeable future. In this regard the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications has recently been requested to approach Bord Telecom Éireann with a view to that organisation transferring staff to both centres.
