Vol. 406 No. 4

Written Answers. - Voluntary Secondary Schools.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

69 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education if she will outline in respect of voluntary secondary schools (a) the number and proportion of such schools which have a board of management, (b) the interests represented on the boards where they exist and (c) if her Department have laid down regulations and rules of procedure for such boards as in the case of national schools.

My Department do not keep specific records related to boards of management in voluntary secondary schools. I understand, however, that of the 485 such schools, 227, or 47 per cent, have boards of management.

In most cases, the membership of a board comprises representatives of school trustees, parents and teachers on the school staff.

No regulations or rules of procedure are laid down by my Department for such boards.
