Question:

87 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Environment whether the design has been agreed on the Northern Cross Route; and, if so, if he will give details thereof.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 85, 86 and 87 together.

The motorway scheme for the Northern Cross Route was prepared by Dublin County Council acting on their own behalf and on behalf of Dublin Corporation in so far as sections of the proposed scheme lie in the administrative area of the corporation. During the course of a local public inquiry held in June 1990, all aspects of the motorway scheme, including the environmental impact study and design report prepared by Dublin County Council, were considered and the scheme was approved by the Minister for the Environment, subject to modifications, in February 1991. The county council have been asked to send a copy of the design report to the Deputy.

Complaints have been lodged with the EC Commission in connection with implementation of Directive 85/337/EEC in relation to the motorway scheme. My Department have responded to these complaints and are involved in ongoing discussions with the Commission concerning them.
