Vol. 421 No. 8

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

238 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give details of the total number of staff, either full-time or part-time, working (a) in his private ministerial office, (b) in his constituency office and (c) elsewhere in his Department but working personally for him; if he will outline (1) the number, if any, working for him under consultancy agreements or contracts and (2) the salary level or fees payable in each case; and if he will list the names of the people in each case.

There are ten full-time staff employed in my private ministerial office and five full-time staff in my constituency office at present. There are no part-time staff employed in either office. No other staff of the Department are working personally for me.

There are no staff working for me under consultancy arrangements. Two staff, a special adviser and a personal secretary are employed under contract and are included under the constituency office numbers above.

The special adviser is paid at the maximum of the salary scale for higher executive officers (currently £20,681); the personal secretary is paid an allowance for personal secretary duties (currently £14.93 per week) in addition to her salary at the maximum of the salary scale for secretarial assistants in the Oireachtas (currently £269.55 per week).

It is not customary to name individual employees in replies to parliamentary questions but the names of the persons concerned are listed in the 1992 edition of the State Directory.
