54 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need that now exists to appoint an additional District Court judge in Cork to enable scheduled hearings to proceed without undue delay.
I am aware that it has been necessary for some time past, owing to the growth of District Court business in Cork city, to make arrangements, in consultation with the President of the District Court, for extra District Court sittings to be held in addition to the scheduled sittings. Usually, a moveable judge is assigned to Cork city district each week, thereby enabling a second District Court to sit in Cork city. At present plans are that this arrangement should continue.
