Vol. 426 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mullaghmore (Clare) Interpretative Centre.

John Bruton

Question:

52 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the High Court decision in the case of the Mullaghmore interpretative centre, County Clare, the Commissioners for Public Works will apply for planning permission for this and the other interpretative centres including the Boyne Valley Centre.

The Government have approved an appeal against the High Court judgment in the case of the Mullaghmore Centre to the Supreme Court in order to clarify the application of the Planning Acts to developments by State Authorities, including the Commissioners of Public Works, having regard to the conflicting decisions in the Luggala and Mullaghmore actions. The Government also approved the suspension of work on three Visitor Centre projects viz. Luggala, Mullaghmore and the Boyne Valley, pending the outcome of the Supreme Court hearing.

No decision will be taken on the question of an application under the Planning Acts in respect of these centres until the Supreme Court's decision is known.
