Vol. 433 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Building Works.

Richard Bruton

Question:

159 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the present stage of the proposed minor building work at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 3.

Tenders have been received in my Department for the works referred to by the Deputy at the school in question.

However, I am not in a position to say when this work will be undertaken as the advancement of all projects is dependent on the availability of capital resources and on my Department's other commitments and priorities.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

160 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if a person (details supplied) in County Kildare can complete the remaining subjects of his leaving certificate examination by special arrangement, in view of the fact that he was hospitalised when he had only completed four out of seven subjects, and that full medical evidence is available to verify this; if special arrangements have been made in such cases in the past; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department makes special arrangements each year to enable candidates who are ill to take all or part of their examinations in hospital, subject to their doing their examinations at the appointed time.

In the case of candidates who are taken ill during the course of the examinations, and are therefore unable to take the examinations at the appointed time, it is not feasible to provide replacement papers in either the Junior or Leaving Certificate Examinations.
