Vol. 449 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire (Dublin) College.

Tony Gregory

Question:

71 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education the overall cost of the Urban College in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3534/95]

The policy agreement of A Government of Renewal states: "In the lifetime of the Government we will develop an urban college on the existing campus in Dún Laoghaire. My Department is at present preparing an academic plan for the college. The plan will take account of the submissions of the Dún Laoghaire Vocational Education Committee and the College of Art and Design, Dún Laoghaire which were made to the steering committee on the future development of higher education.

On completion of the academic plan for the college, precise costings of the project will be determined. I expect that work on the pre-construction stage of the project will commence later in 1995 and that the building work will get underway in the latter part of 1996. Funding of the initial phases of the project has been included in the special projects provision of £8.84 million of the 1994-99 European Regional Development Fund third level capital investment programme.
