Vol. 451 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cow Parks and Plots.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

32 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will consider revoking the trusts under which cow parks and cow plots currently operate. [5887/95]

Cow parks or cow plots are administered under deeds of trust by trustees representing the local communities in which the cow parks are situated. A review of the area of trusts established by the Land Commission to oversee management of lands set aside for communal use was carried out within my Department in 1993-94. Following this review it was decided that where lands the subject of a trust are no longer required for or used in accordance with its terms such trusts should be revoked and the lands disposed of under land purchase Acts. While it is likely that many cow parks will fall into this category each trust case must be considered in the context of its own individual circumstances and the future of each trust estate must be decided accordingly.
